His 1956 classic Saxophone Colossus was a king during those times, but only one king of many. On Newk's Time he has great drummer Philly Joe Jones and Wynton Kelly on piano, also Doug Watkins on bass. The session comes, and sure enough, there on the Newks’ Time masters are dire looking warnings about “severe tape drop outs” all over the outer box and inner notes.
